legs and arms

flickering

in and out of fire

in and out of the dark

 

old stories told

old songs sung

laughter echoed

through the trees

 

pairs or small groups

mumbled ‘nights

and retired

to their places

 

one stayed

groggy slumped

on his perch

to greet the light
