In Brazil, Evangelical Christers are feeling saucy. They have been able to grab quite a bit of political power and they are proud to tell everyone that they are going to use it to screw the usual groups of people that traditional Christianity doesn’t approve of:
Here in America, decades of high profile faith based hate has turned large parts of the population away from men of the cloth. They’re in retreat and so you have Evangelicals turning to talk of tolerance and getting along with others before they are run out of town:
When a faith is feeling powerful it will demonize and destroy whoever it wishes. When it is weak it will talk about peace and love and whatever bullshit is within reach, clinging in desperation to what social standing and political control it has
In the end, in both cases, it’s about nothing more than power.
